Tenma 72-7925
Recebi esta semana um multímetro da Farnell para fazer uma análise de produto do programa "Road Test".
O multímetro é da marca Tenma modelo 72-7925 . Tenma é uma marca americana que produz equipamentos de teste e orgulha-se por fornecer qualidade a preços acessiveis.
Este é um modelo com um design moderno e atractivo, 3 digitos completos + 1, com sleep mode, pesa apenas 310gr e tem muitas funções disponiveis.
I received this week from Farnell a multimeter to make a review for their "Road Test" program.
The multimeter is from Tenma model 72-7925 . Tenma is an american manufacturer and sells test equipments and has a reputation for providing exceptional quality at a reasonable price.
This model has a modern and attractive design, 3 complete digits plus 1,with sleep mode, weighs only 310gr and has alot of measurement options.

Esta é a caixa ( Fig. 2 ) do multimetro e curiosamente ela presenta as mesmas cores do próprio multimetro ( cinza e laranja ).
This is it's package ( Fig.2 ) and curiously it has the same colors of the multimeter it self ( gray and orange ).

Abrindo a caixa encontramos todos os acessórios organizados. A embalagem inclui, além do multimetro, o seu manual, uma pilha de 9V, um par de pontas de medida e o sensor de temperatura soldado num fio de 1m de comprimento.
Opening the box we find all the accessories organized. The package includes, the multimeter it self, it's manual, a 9V battery, a pair of measuring probes and a temperature sensor soldered in a 1 meter wire.

O manual apresenta-se bastante detalhado e bem explicado. Apenas um idioma está impresso no manual ( Inglês ) mas uma vez que foi enviado directamente da loja Farnell de inglaterra é aceitavel.
The user manual is very detailed and very well explained. Only one language is printed ( English ) but since it was sent from Farnell's UK store it's ok.

Como a maior parte dos multimetros, é alimentado por uma pilha de 9V. Na parte traseira existe um compartimento dedicado para a pilha o que facilita bastante a substituição da pilha. Este é um ponto positivo porque, ao contrário de outros modelos de outras marcas, não é necessário abrir toda a tampa traseira desta forma expor o interior do modelo. Um bravo á Tenma por isso.
Like most multimeters, this is powered by a 9V battery. On the back side there is a special compartment for the battery alone which makes replacing the battery an easy and quick task. This is a very positive feature because unlike many other multimeters it's not necessary to open the entire model and expose internal components just to replace the battery. Thumbs up for Tenma on this one.

Para substituir os fusiveis é necessário abrir o aparelho. Primeiro retira-se a protecção de borracha e depois de se retirar 3 parafusos na parte traseira o multimetro pode ser aberto.
To replace the fuses we need to open up the case. First the rubber covering has to be removed along with 3 screws on the back side.

No seu interior vemos uma excelente construção, não apresenta praticamente nenhum componente electronico na face exposta ao contrário de muitos multimetros de outras grandes marcas. É possivel ver na figura abaixo o fusivel de pequena corrente e soldado na placa o fusivel de grande corrente.
In its interior we can easily see it has a good construction since it practically has no electronic components exposed on the pcb unlike many multimeters from other great brands. It's possible to see in the picture bellow the small current fuse placed in a socket and the high current fuse soldered.

Apenas tenho uma coisa negativa a apontar na construção. No seu interior é possivel ver vários componentes de afinação espalhados pela board. Na minha opinião, estes não deveriam estar expostos da maneira que estão pois facilmente podem sofrer um toque e desregular o aparelho durante uma substituição de fusiveis.
I only have one negative remark regarding the build on this model. Inside on it's pcb we can see many calibrating potentiometers all over the board. In my opinion these calibrating components should not be unprotected as they are because they can be easily touched and mess with the calibration when, for example, replacing a fuse.

Na tampa traseira está colocado o pequeno piezo e a blindagem.
Inside of the back cover there's a small piezo and the shield.

As pontas de medida fornecidas são de ponteira curta e foi medida uma resistencia total de 0,4 ohms. Fazendo um shut directamente nas fichas do multimetro a medição obtida foi exactamente 0 ohms.
The test leads that came with the multimeter have a short tip and they measure a total resistance of 0.4 ohms. Making a direct short in the multimeter's jacks we get exactly 0 ohms.

Como habitualmente grande parte dos multimetros existe a possibilidade de manter o aparelho com uma certa inclinação graças a uma patilha traseira e este modelo não é excepção.
In most multimeters there's the option to keep the model inclined and this model is no exception thanks to a plastic stand in the back.

Na figura em baixo ve-se o selector. Este modelo está bastante completo em termos de funções. Além das funções mais usuais, possui também a capacidade de medir temperatura, condensadores e transistores. Possui também um botão de Hold para "congelar" a medição.
The picture bellow shows the rotary switch. This model is pretty well equipped with functions. Together with the usual functions, it also has the ability to measure temperature, capacitors ans transistors. It also has a Hold button to "freeze" the reading.

Na parte inferior do multimetro estão os conectores para teste de condensadores e transistores. Estão também as fichas para as pontas de medida. A indicação das limitações está bem assinalada.
De salientar ainda está a marcação CE o que significa que segue as normas da legislação europeia.
At the lower end of the multimeter we can see the jacks for capacitors and transistors. We can also see the test leds. The electrical limitations are well marked on the surface. One important note is that we can also see the CE marking. The CE marking is a key indicator of a product's compliance with EU legislation.

Uma das funções testadas foi a de medição de temperatura com o sensor fornecido. Este sensor consegue medir temperaturas até 249ºC ( 480ºF ).Com o sensor ligado e o selector na posição F o multimetro lê a resistência do sensor e aprensenta no display a temperatura. O resultado apresentado ( 70ºF ) apresenta-se correcto, no entanto foi necessário converter com a minha calculadora para a unidade de medida usada na europa ( Celsius ).
Este modelo não permite transitar entre unidades de medida, mas este modelo existe com a medição em graus celsius ou com a medição em graus Fahrenheit.
Na altura da compra, convêm verificar se modelo vem com a unidade de medida pretendida.
One of the tested functions was the temperature measurment with the provided sensor. This sensor can be used up to 249ºC ( 480ºF ). With the sensor plugged in and the selector in the F position the multimeter reads the sensor's resistance and displays the temperature. In my measurement i had a reading of 70ºF which was correct, however i had to convert it to the temperature unit used in europe ( Celsius ) with my calculator.
This model does not convert between both units, but this model is available with both options, Celsius or Fahrenheit.
When buying, this option must be checked so that the correct temperature unit is choosen.

Em relação ao teste de transistors, os valores dos componentes testados apresentam-se consistentes, no entanto foi bastante dificil colocar os componentes nos sockets do multimetro. Isto porque usaram sockets fixos que não se adaptam aos pinos dos transistores fazendo com que o contacto eléctrico seja deficiente. Para minimizar a situação, é necessário segurar o componente com os dedos para forçar o contacto eléctrico.
Regarding the transistor measurements, the values seemed to be consistent, however it was very hard to place the component in it's jack.
The problem is that the jack used is not adjustable to the component's pin therefore providing a deficient electric contact. As a workarround of the situation, one must hold the transistor with a finger forcing it to make electrical contact.

Ao contrario do socket para transistors, o socket para condensadores já é ajustavel ao pino do componente permitindo um contacto electrico perfeito.
Neste modelo é possivel medir capacidades até 20uF. O modelo seguinte da Tenma já mede capacidades até aos 100uF.
Diferent from the transistor's jack, the capacitor jacks are pin adjustable allowing a perfect electrical contact.
This model can reach 20uF measurements. The next model from Tenma can reach 100uF measurements.

Foram usados componentes de precisão ( resistências e condensadores ) para os testes e o multimetro mostrou-se bastante fiavel nas medições.
Como comentário final, dou nota bastante positiva a este multimetro, tem uma excelente construção, tanto interna como externa e é sem dúvida uma excelente opção de bancada a um preço bastante acessivel ( 34,77€ ).
I've used precision componets ( resistors and capacitors ) for the tests and the multimeter was very accurate in it's readings.
For the final comment, i give a very positive score to this multimeter, it has an excelent inner and outer construction and it's with no doubt an excelent choice to have on the workbench at a very good price ( £22,28 ).
